NET METERING

What is net metering?

Net metering allows residential and commercial solar customers who generate their own electricity to feed what they do not use back into the grid. As the excessive generated energy feeds back into the grid, the system credits the system owner for the amount of energy that was fed into the grid.  Many states have passed net metering laws. In some states, utilities may offer net metering programs voluntarily or as a result of regulatory decisions.

How it works:

When your solar system starts to feed back to the grid the excessive energy which was not used, your electricity meter (Smart Meter) will run backwards to provide a credit against electricity that is consumed at night, rainy days or days which the electricity use exceeds the system’s production. You may be able to use these credits from your over-production on your future utility bills.
